When you arrive in Newport centre, you will head for the Riverside (or bus terminal) entrance as seen in the picture to the left. Inside, you will find the bus terminals ticket office.
Once you are there, you will text Anna who will come down and meet you. She will then take you up to her counselling room which is located on the second floor of the market.
Anna will need to meet you in the market at each session as access to these rooms is resticted to the general public.
At the start of each session, Anna will offer you a tea or coffee. You will then have an uninterupted hour focused solely on you.
The initial session is quite a different experience from the rest. First Anna will ask you to explain what has brought you to counselling. It is quite normal for her to ask you to clarify certain points or add additional detail.
Then Anna will ask you what you wish to achieve from counselling and draw up a list of goals or aims to be accomplished by the end of therapy. This will drive each session and be your guide to how you have progressed.
Finally, Anna will ask you to either think about one of your goals or enact a strategy discussed in the session between now and your next appointment. The task that you do will depend on you and on what Anna has identified about your circumstances. This sort of simple exercise will be a common occurance during your time with Anna.
Subsequent sessions will take on a familar pattern. Anna will always ask you about how you have been and if there have been any changes that she needs to be made aware of. It is quite common to discuss what you were asked to go away and think about or how your newest strategies have worked for you at this point. However, this may come up later instead.
Anna will then check on your goals, and ask if you want to change any or if you feel you have fulfilled them. As sessions progress you will find that your goals are increasingly stable and that you start checking more of them off.
Then Anna will ask what you wish to work on in that session. From this point, that subject will be the focus of the session until the time is up.
What If I Go To An Evening Session?
There is no difference to how counselling with Anna progresses in an evening session to a day session apart from the location.
Evening sessions are located at the Newport Clinic for Holistic Health at the bottom of Llanthewy Road (as seen in the fourth picture). Anna will still meet you outside the building and take you to the room.
From this point on, the counselling experience is identical.
The Counselling Experience
Just the idea of having a counselling session can be stressful for many attending therapy for the first time. This is a simple breakdown of what the experience is like when being counselled by Anna.
