What Is Counselling?
Counselling gives you the space to explore difficulties in your life and find ways to resolve them. A trained counsellor will talk through your problems with you in private. This is to help you better understand your situation and how to improve it. This process takes place over a number of counselling sessions until you feel you have resolved your issues.
Many people seek counselling for themselves - this is known as individual counselling - which allows the counsellor to focus exclusively on their issues. In individual counselling you are able to express your emotions and talk freely with someone who is not emotionally involved. You can also feel confident that the counsellor will not discuss your issues elsewhere unless in extraordinary circumstances. Further information about this can be found at the BACP website.
You can attend counselling with a partner, which is known as couples counselling. This enables both you and your partner to look at problems within your relationship and find ways to resolve these.
Anna is trained and experienced in individual and couples counselling for a wide range of issues. More information about counselling issues can be found by following this link.
Whatever your needs she will take time to listen to you, give you the space to express your thoughts and feelings and respect your choices. In building a counselling relationship with you Anna will not judge you or what you say, reflecting the Person–Centred approach to counselling which Anna has been trained to use. She will also not give you advice on what choices you should make, but rather will give you strategies to help you find your own solutions, reflecting the CBT approach.
